In 2003 the Squadron was looking for a new engineering project for the cadets to undertake. After looking into the safety aspects of go-karting it was decided that this would be a very worthwhile project.
Two ex-racing chassis were purchased from the current British TKM kart champion. These were purchased without engines so the search started for suitable engines that could be maintained by cadets.
Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the Bournemouth Karting Center we suddenly had five Honda engines for our two karts. With the help of Penske Racing suitable mountings were made and the cadets got down to assembling the Karts.
We are very fortunate that one of the Squadron CI's has, in the past, acted as a pit manager for a karting team. Within months the Karts were up and running and driver training was able to commence.
