Squadron Leader Alan Wiggins
THE PROJECT DIRECTOR

"I am now 57 years old and I have been involved with the Air Cadets since 1961", said Squadron Leader Alan Wiggins of Central and East Region.

I initially joined as a cadet, then became a civilian instructor and finally took a commission.

I served with 120 (Hendon) Squadron in Middlesex, 1051 (Dartford) Squadron in Kent and finally become Officer Commanding 134 (Bedford) Squadron in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing before joining the Central and East Region Staff in 1996.

At Central and East Region I have served for five years as the deputy regional physical education officer and for two and a half years as the Regional Corporate Communications Officer.

In my private life, I initially served an engineering apprenticeship with the Handley Page Aircraft Company and finally trained with them as a flight test engineer.

I also spent two years with the Westland aircraft Company as a development engineer on the Lynx helicopter and then 14 years with the Hunting Group in the defence industry as a project manager before 19 years in the railway signalling industry. Now I am a projects director with a signalling systems company.
